Memorial Day weekend is certainly a time to remember those who have fought and given their all for the freedoms that so many enjoy. It’s also a time that families and friends tend to gather and enjoy time together, often amidst the beautiful outdoors.
Get help from Mother Nature! Buy red, white and blue flowers from your local nursery or even the grocery store. Show your patriotic colors with these red, white and blue plants. Combine in your containers and gardens. Bonus: You can spread these potted flowers throughout your landscape or around your porch long after the celebration weekend, and enjoy them all summer. Add extra flare by adding an American flag or red, white and blue pinwheels.
Red, White and Blue Flowers
Red - tulips, salvia, geranium, verbena, poppies, zinnia, begonias, mums, snapdragons and celosia.
White - geranium, alyssum, Shasta daisy, salvia, mums snapdragons, verbena and zinnias.
Blue - ageratum, blue bells, lobelia, verbena and salvia.
Get creative with food presentation this weekend – use red from delicious strawberries or tomatoes, white from creams or breads, and blue from blueberries or m&ms to create edible masterpieces.
Wanna have the most patriotic lawn in the neighborhood?
Just cut a star shape into cardboard, lay it on the lawn and spray paint with construction marking paint.
Quick, super easy with fantastic results!
Make fun patriotic candle holders. Gathered some glass jars from the recycling bin. Think pickle or pizza sauce jars, you could use any size you like. You will need white glue thinned with a bit with water, a paint brush, and some festive red, white and blue sequins buttons or any other fun decorations. Covered the jars with glue, then hold the jar on its side while you sprinkle decorations all over. Just kept spinning the jar and sprinkling until you're happy with your creations. Let them dry, popped in a battery operated tea light and enjoy.
